Women are underrepresented in galleries and museums. According to the National Museum of Woman’s Art “only 30% of artists represented by commercial galleries are women.” A survey of the permanent collections in 18 prominent museums in the U.S. shows that out of over 10,000 artists represented, 87% are male. Of living artists represented by galleries in North America and Europe, a measly 13.7% are women. Represent serves as a place to showcase and celebrate works driven by the experiences of woman and nonbinary artists.
